Dr. Anil Yildirim is a co-founder and Senior Research Scientist at Supercritical, specializing in thin CFD modeling and aerodynamic shape optimization. With years of consulting experience in aerodynamic shape optimization, he has a proven track record of developing advanced design workflows and meshing complex geometries.
Dr. Yildirim received his PhD in Aerospace Engineering and Scientific Computing from the University of Michigan, where he was advised by Prof. Martins. His PhD work focused on aeropropulsive design optimization, coupling aerodynamic and propulsion system designs for optimal performance. He collaborated with NASA to develop MPhys, a framework for high-fidelity MDO.
Before his PhD, Dr. Yildirim earned his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Bogazici University in Turkey. He also obtained two Master of Science and Engineering (M.S.E.) degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. Dr. Yildirim has received numerous awards, including the François-Xavier Bagnoud Fellowship, the MICDE Fellowship, and the AIAA Gordon C. Oates Air Breathing Propulsion Graduate Award. He has won best student paper awards at the AIAA AVIATION Forum for his coupled aeropropulsive model development work.
At Supercritical, Dr. Yildirim leverages his CFD-based aerodynamic shape optimization expertise to deliver innovative solutions for clients. He was a key consultant in Supercritical’s engagement with American Magic, where he developed automated workflows for flapped hydrofoil optimization. Dr. Yildirim's extensive experience with industry-oriented CFD makes him an invaluable asset to Supercritical clients. His expertise in meshing and geometry parametrization, accounting for practical constraints, enables effective collaboration with industrial design teams. By quickly understanding clients' goals, Dr. Yildirim translates problems into tailored design optimization solutions, ensuring efficient and accurate results.
