Senior Research Engineer

Dr. Eirikur Jonsson is a Senior Research Engineer at Supercritical, where he applies his expertise in aeroelastic optimization, numerical methods, and high-performance computing.
Dr. Jonsson received his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, where he was advised by Prof. Martins. His PhD work focused on high-fidelity aerostructural optimization of flexible wings with flutter constraints, making significant contributions to the field of aircraft design. During his PhD, Dr. Jonsson worked on several projects with Airbus and Embraer, developing practical methods for aeroelastic optimization and flutter constraint evaluation.
Before his PhD, Dr. Jonsson earned his M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and B.Sc. in Mechatronic Engineering from Reykjavik University. He also gained valuable industry experience as an embedded software engineer at Marel and a network engineer at Iceland Telecom.
At Supercritical, Dr. Jonsson leverages his expertise to develop and apply state-of-the-art computational methods for aeroelastic optimization, helping clients achieve superior efficiency, stability, and performance in their aircraft designs.
