Prof. Joaquim R. R. A. Martins

Prof. Joaquim R. R. A. Martins is the co-founder and CEO of Supercritical. He is a world-renowned expert in multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) and has made significant contributions to aerodynamic and aerostructural design optimization.

Prof. Martins is also a Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he heads the MDO Lab. He is the author of "Engineering Design Optimization", a widely cited textbook that has become a go-to resource for professionals and students.

Prof. Martins received his PhD from Stanford University and his MEng from Imperial College London. His research has been recognized with six best paper awards at AIAA conferences.

Prof. Martins has demonstrated a strong commitment to mentorship and education throughout his career. He has graduated 40 PhDs and advised 18 postdoctoral researchers, 12 of whom have become professors.
